Frequently asked questions.
What type of wedding photography do you specialise in?
I like the term “relaxed” wedding photography - it means that I generally photograph weddings as they happen, without fuss, in a very candid way. It also means that if someone asks me to take their picture, I will always do so - I amy move them a little to get a nice background, but I will always take the photo.
Will you photograph group images?
Yes, definitely! Most couples want a photo with their parents, their close family and the bridal party. I always ask you for a list of group photos in advance. I usually suggest we keep the list to 5/6/7 images because by the time you have posed for the sixth time, you will want to be celebrating with your friends and family not smiling at my camera.
Will you take some portraits of us?
I love to photograph great wedding portraits and will definitely take you out for some formal images. I love enviromental portraits (think grand vistas) and pictures close intimate canoodles. I’m really conscious that on your wedding day, you want to be with your guests, so I keep portrait sessions quick & fun so I can get you back to your friends and family.
What’s an “everbody” photo and do we need one?
So an everybody photo is one great big picture with you and all your guests. I suggest that we take these straight after the ceremony. Its usually a great way of capturing everyone that was there without standing for lots of group shots.
What time do you start?
I usually start at least an hour before the ceremony, however, most people tend to book me for 12 hours of coverage, so usually 10am or 11pm depending on your needs.
What time do you finish?
There is a magic moment betwee 10 and 11pm where no-one wants any more photos and I suggest that the 12 hours coverage finishes at somepoint between these two.
Whats included in the package?
Each of my packages incude a period of coverage, the curating and editing of the photos; delivery of the images on a beautifully boxed USB stick with 50 6x4 inch prints of your day; along with an album credit. I also provide an online gallery for 12 months.
ALSO - where possible, I will voice record your speeches using a couple of small voice recorders, then present them in a nice photo slideshow of you wedding day.
How do we book you?
I’ll send you a booking proposal link that will capture all the important information about your wedding day, it will then ask you to sign the contract and pay the £200 non-refundable booking fee. Please be assured that the non-refundable booking fee will be offset against your final balance that falls due 30 days ahead of your wedding date.
How far in advance should we book?
I would suggest you book shorlty following securing your date with your wedding venue. Most couples tend to book me 18 months to two years in advance. I will take last minute bookings, but its subject to my availability.
Can we have a chat before booking?
Yes, of course. I would suggest you meet me at one of the wedding fairs or I’ll set up an video conference so that you can ask me anything and you can check that you can get on with me.
Where do you travel?
I usually cover the North West, North Wales and Yorkshire. If the venue is over a two hour drive from Stockport, I will charge for travel expenses.
How many photographers will their be in my wedding day?
It depends on what you have booked - if you have booked just one photographer, that will be me on my own. If you have booked two, then I’ll bring in an experienced photographer to work along side me.
What happens if you are sick?
I’m a part of a numberof groups of photographers, specifically set up to assist each other in times adversity.
Are you insured?
Yes, I have both professional indemnity and public liability insurance. I would suggest that you have wedding insurance too!
How are our images kept safe?
During your wedding day I will photograph with two cameras, both with dual memory cards, and I generally keep a spare camera in my car. I back up your images to two hard disks when I get home and I won’t use the same memory cards again until after I have delivered your wedding. Once I have delivered the images to you, the responsiblity passes to you to keep them secure. I will try to keep a copy for future prosperity but I can’t guarantee that I will be able to retain a copy indefinitely.
How long does it take you to edit a wedding?
I aim to deliver your edited images around 6 weeks after your wedding. Sometimes at the height of the wedding season this can slip by a week or two but I will always communicate if there is going to be a delay.
What do you mean by “edited” images?
I colour correct your images as closely as possible to how I remember the colours of your wedding felt on the day, e.g. the flowers of your bouquet should always match. I will apply a very slight warm tone to give your day a lovely glow but as you will see from my website, its not extreme.
I will also provide a black and white copy of all your images, usually side-by-side with the colour version. My black and white editing style is to keep the white bright, and the darks a dark, nearly black, feel.
Will we get all the photos you take on the day?
No, and you don’t want them all. I generally take upwards of three thousand images on a wedding day. I’ll cull these down to a manageable portfolio - with one photographer, photographing for 12 hours, I generally deliver between 700-800 images (plus the black and white version).
I also do something called “sequencing” where I’ll take multiple images of the same moment so that I get the best possible version to share with you. This means I can fill a memory card pretty quickly.
What happens if it rains on the day?
Then we make do! If the forecast is mixed or for rain, I would suggest you order some cheap clear umbrellas from Amazon etc. It rarely rains all day, so I’ll aim to take you our for portraits in between showrs. If it does rain all day, we will do portraits inside and I will light them like in a studio - I always bring my flashes and light stands for this purpose.
